Itinerary

12 Days / 11 Nights

Note: This itinerary provides a general idea of the route offered during the tour. Due to local river conditions, the actual day-to-day itinerary may change. Each day offers opportunities for jungle walks, including early morning birdwatching and night walks upon request. Guests may also have the chance to fish and swim in the rivers between other activities.

Day 1 – Quito / Lago Agrio / Cuyabeno Reserve

Travel from Quito to Lago Agrio by bus (approximately 8 hours) or by airplane (approximately 30 minutes). The adventure begins at the meeting point in Lago Agrio, followed by a private bus ride of approximately two hours to the entrance of the Cuyabeno Reserve.

Lunch is served at the reserve entrance before boarding a motorized canoe for approximately two hours along the Cuyabeno River to reach the lodge.

Day 2 – Laguna Grande

After breakfast, enjoy a walk around Laguna Grande. Depending on conditions, you may see monkeys, macaws, river dolphins and other wildlife.

After lunch, go swimming in Laguna Grande and enjoy the beautiful sunset. Optional night walk.

Day 3 – Siona Indigenous Community

After breakfast, continue the journey by canoe along the Cuyabeno River to the Siona Indigenous Community. Visit a local family and participate in preparing traditional yucca bread.

Continue down the river to the community where a traditional Shaman lives. Set up camp in the area and participate in a ceremony with the Shaman to learn about his work and beliefs.

Day 4

The itinerary for this day was not provided in the original program and may vary according to local river and weather conditions.

Day 5 – Aguarico River

Travel farther into the Cuyabeno Reserve, arriving close to the Peruvian-Ecuadorian border. Continue by canoe along the Aguarico River.

This longer journey offers spectacular views of wide river beaches, wildlife and remote vegetation. In the late afternoon, set up a new base camp on the beaches of the Aguarico River.

Day 6 – Lagarto Cocha

Visit one of the most remote regions of the Cuyabeno National Reserve and Ecuador’s Amazon Basin. Lagarto Cocha is a pristine and remote rainforest area known for pink river dolphins and caimans, which can be seen at night.

Day 7 – Lagarto Cocha Activities

Continue with jungle walks, fishing, bird observation and canoeing, depending on weather and river conditions. Spend the day exploring the Lagarto Cocha region.

Day 8 – Ecuador / Peru Border

Depart early from the Lagarto Cocha region and continue the journey to the customs checkpoint on the border between Ecuador and Peru.

Route: Rocafuerte – Pantoja – Santa Martha de Nanay.

Day 9 – Curaray River

Continue to the base camp on the Curaray River, where there will be opportunities to fish and enjoy an afternoon or evening jungle walk.

Day 10 – Santa Clotilde

Continue with the expedition and enjoy activities in the region of Santa Clotilde. Activities depend on local conditions.

Day 11 – Laguna Achual Cocha

Spend the last full day in the Peruvian Amazon exploring the region of Laguna Achual Cocha and its surrounding rainforest.

Day 12 – Iquitos

On the final day, arrive at the entrance of the Great Amazon River and enter the city of Iquitos in the morning.

The tour officially ends in Iquitos. Guests may continue to Lima by plane if desired; airfare is not included in the price.
