About Yacuma Ecolodge & Reserve
Facilities
The tourist facilities at Yacuma Ecolodge are designed to provide a comfortable and authentic Amazon experience while blending naturally with the surrounding rainforest.
The first area consists of 12 traditional Amazon-style cabañas (bungalows), built using sustainably harvested rainforest materials combined with modern elements that can be removed from the jungle when necessary.
Each cabin features 2 rooms, with private bathroom facilities and two comfortable twin beds equipped with mosquito nets. A second area includes the spacious dining room, kitchen and comfortable reception area.
Location
Yacuma Reserve and Ecolodge is located in the Napo River region of the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest. The reserve and lodge cover approximately 300 hectares (3,000,000 square meters) of rainforest.
With its remarkable diversity of species and ecosystems, Yacuma Forest Reserve offers an exceptional setting for ecotourism and nature exploration, surrounded by the rich biodiversity of the Amazon.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Quito (or Baños) / Yacuma Lodge
Travel from Tena to Santa Rosa, where you will board a canoe for an iconic river journey to Yacuma Lodge, approximately 20–30 minutes by river.
After check-in, plan with your guide a visit to Yacuma’s exclusive Hidden Lagoon.
Day 2 – Yacuma EcoLodge
Surrounded by 275 hectares of primary rainforest, Yacuma offers a variety of activities. Choose from jungle hikes ranging from 30 minutes to four hours, including the exclusive Tutapishco Bat Cave.
During the hikes, your guide will explain the medicinal plants, local birdlife and other aspects of the rainforest.
Visit the local Kichwa community of Chontayacu and learn about their traditional jungle lifestyle. You may also shop for locally produced handicrafts and organically grown crops.
Enjoy kayaking or tubing activities on the river.
After dinner, join a farewell celebration around the common fireplace.
Day 3 – Yacuma EcoLodge / Tena
Weather permitting, rise early to visit one of the few clay lick areas in the region, where local birdlife gathers in large numbers. Alternatively, head to the Yacuma viewpoint to enjoy the sunrise.
After breakfast, say goodbye to the lodge and board your canoe for the return journey along the river to the entrance of the Napo River, where the tour ends.
