About Itamandi EcoLodge
Itamandi EcoLodge offers sustainable travel and ecotourism in one of the world’s most fascinating environments: the Amazon Rainforest. Located along the banks of the Arajuno River, approximately 40 minutes from Tena, the lodge combines a unique rainforest setting with comfortable, luxury accommodation and a strong commitment to sustainable tourism.
From Quito, Itamandi EcoLodge can be reached by approximately four hours by car followed by a short canoe ride. Its location provides a wide range of activities and excursions, making it ideal for both adventurous travelers and those looking for a relaxing Amazon getaway.
The Amazon Experience
During your stay, you can visit a local Kichwa community and enjoy traditional folkloric dances performed by children from the community, explore primary rainforest trails with educational naturalist guides, take nighttime walks, visit a parrot clay lick, go birdwatching, float down the Arajuno River by tube, learn how artisan chocolate is produced and enjoy many other Amazon activities.
For a more relaxed experience, guests can unwind in the open-air hotel area with a swimming pool, full-service bar and comfortable relaxation spaces. Across the river is the renowned Jatun Sacha scientific research station.
Accommodation & Facilities
The two-story cabañas are inspired by the natural environment and combine authentic Amazonian design with comfort. The 8 spacious rooms feature sleeping and sitting areas, private bathrooms with hot water and rainfall showers, and private balconies.
Each balcony includes a hammock or deck chair where guests can relax while observing hummingbirds, river birds, kingfishers and colorful butterflies. At night, the surrounding rainforest comes alive with the sounds of frogs and other nocturnal wildlife.
The main complex offers another 11 spacious rooms with single, double and triple accommodation upon request. These rooms include sleeping and sitting areas, private bathrooms with hot showers and views overlooking either the river or the surrounding tropical forest.
In total, Itamandi EcoLodge has 19 private rooms in different configurations, together with several communal areas including a spacious dining room, open-air bar, swimming pool and observation tower.
Dining & Relaxation
The restaurant serves a wide variety of dishes with both national and international influences. Meals are prepared using fresh, local ingredients, with buffet service for breakfast and lunch and table service for dinner.
Vegetarian meals and other special dietary requirements can be arranged upon request. At the open-air bar, guests can enjoy cocktails and other drinks while overlooking the river and pool, creating a relaxing way to end the day in the Amazon.
A raised and roofed boardwalk connects the guest accommodations with the lodge’s main communal areas, allowing guests to move comfortably through the property while remaining surrounded by the rainforest.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Arriving at Itamandi EcoLodge
Begin the journey at Arajuno Bridge and take a motorized canoe upstream for approximately 20 minutes to Itamandi EcoLodge. Enjoy the beauty of the Amazon rainforest as you travel along the winding river.
Upon arrival at the dock, the resident manager will welcome you with a refreshing drink. Relax in the bar area with a snack while a naturalist guide provides a briefing with general information about the lodge and activities.
Optional Night Walk: Explore the rainforest after dark with a flashlight and camera. Look and listen for fishing bats, owls, insects, tarantulas, toads, frogs and possibly snakes. If the sky is clear, there may also be an opportunity for stargazing.
Dinner is served at the lodge.
Day 2 – Bird Encounter & Cultural Encounter
Parrot Clay Lick: Take a 15-minute canoe ride upstream early in the morning to visit a parrot clay lick (Saladero). Observe parrots and parakeets gathering to obtain minerals that help digest the fruits and seeds they consume. Hundreds of birds may gather in the treetops before descending to the mineral-rich clay bank. Binoculars are essential for this activity.
After breakfast, enjoy a 2.5–3 hour guided hike through primary and secondary rainforest. Naturalist guides explain the ecology, flora and fauna of the area, with opportunities to observe insects, birds, reptiles and monkeys.
In the afternoon, visit an Amazonian Kichwa community and learn about their traditional way of life and relationship with the forest. Participate in the preparation of Chicha, a traditional fermented yucca drink, and sample local cuisine.
The visit concludes with a traditional dance performed by children from the community, with time to purchase indigenous handicrafts that support local families.

Day 3 – Check-out & Return to Arajuno Bridge
After breakfast, check out from Itamandi EcoLodge and take a 20-minute motorized canoe ride back to Arajuno Bridge, where the tour ends.

Driving Directions
Step 1
Cross the bridge over the Río Napo.
Step 2
Immediately after the bridge, turn left.
Step 3
Follow the paved road until you reach an intersection.
Step 4
Continue straight. Do not turn left.

Once you reach the Río Arajuno Bridge, you have arrived at
