About Nicky Lodge

Itinerary
Day 1 – El Puente / Nicky Amazon Lodge
The journey begins at El Puente, the main entrance to the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, at 11:00 am. Continue by motorized canoe down the Cuyabeno River for approximately 2.5 hours to Nicky Amazon Lodge, with opportunities to observe monkeys and bird species along the way.
Upon arrival, enjoy a welcome cocktail and time to rest and explore the surroundings. Before dinner, take a night walk to look for insects, spiders, tree frogs and other nocturnal species. After dinner, your bilingual guide will explain the activities planned for the following days.
Day 2 – Rainforest Exploration & Cuyabeno River
In the morning, explore the tropical rainforest in search of monkeys and bird species before returning for breakfast. Continue with a guided rainforest walk to learn how the different species coexist within the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
Look for colorful butterflies, frogs and birds while discovering the area’s flora. Return to the lodge for lunch, followed by time to swim, play soccer or relax.
In the afternoon, take a canoe trip down the Cuyabeno River through the dense jungle. Look for monkeys, macaws, toucans and sloths along the riverbanks, with opportunities to see pink river dolphins.
After dusk, explore the lodge surroundings in search of nocturnal animals such as insects, spiders, snakes and frogs.
Day 3 – Return to El Puente / Lago Agrio / Quito
Optional morning excursion: Take a short canoe trip to look for monkeys, birds and possibly sloths around the lodge.
After breakfast, pack your luggage for the return journey. A box lunch is provided. Travel upstream by canoe to El Puente de Cuyabeno, arriving around 10:30 am.
From El Puente, a tourist bus may take you directly to Quito, or you may take public transportation to Lago Agrio at approximately 1:00 pm and continue your journey to Quito.

After breakfast, visit the Indigenous Siona community and experience their daily life in the Amazon Basin. Learn how to make cassave, the traditional manioc bread of the region, and discover local customs and traditions.
Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, travel by motorized canoe up the Cuyabeno River to Laguna Grande.
Explore the lagoon and learn about the Igapó, the flooded forest ecosystem dominated by giant macrolobium trees. Enjoy a swim in the calm waters while watching the spectacular Amazon sunset.
Continue with nocturnal wildlife observation, including bats and caimans, on the way back to the lodge. Dinner.

After lunch, explore the Cuyabeno River by paddling canoe. Enjoy the scenery, listen to the sounds of the jungle and look for exotic local species.

There are several options to travel to the meeting point. You can take a bus from Quito to Lago Agrio and continue to the entrance of the Cuyabeno Reserve. The journey takes approximately 10 hours.
